A historic first
At 10:49 a.m. AEST, Safiya al-Sayegh started from the time trial platform at the World Championships in Wollongong, Australia. This is a historic first. In fact, Safiya is the first UAE athlete to take part in the road cycling World Championships.
Safiya, at only 20 years old, in addition to being national champion in both road and time trial, is also a graduate student in Graphic Design.
There are not many athletes who manage to combine university commitments with the extremely hard training required of a professional, while achieving great sporting results.
