What is the artist’s intention behind the installation?
This piece is not a commissioned work for a Colnago showroom, but rather a part of the private contemporary art collection of Colnago’s owner.
The installation reflects on the healing power of painting. In this piece as well as in the accompanying totem Chaparro draws inspiration from the ancestral traditions of Native American cultures, approaching creation with a shamanic sensibility. The painted wooden spheres represent wounds, and the paint serves as medicine, both symbolically and spiritually.
While it is not a complementary piece to the totem, it engages in a visual dialogue with it forming a contrast between the mathematical precision of the totem and the organic softness of the spheres.
